What an invisible grill actually is

An invisible grill is a set of thin stainless steel cables run vertically between an upper and lower track fixed to your balcony or window opening. Each cable is tensioned so the line stays taut, and the spacing between cables is kept narrow enough that a child cannot pass through or wedge a head between them.

Compared with a conventional MS grill, the visual difference is the point. Traditional grills sit in your line of sight from every seat in the room. Cables of a few millimetres largely disappear against the sky, which is why most of our balcony enquiries in Bangalore now start with this option rather than a welded grill.

Where residents ask for it most

The right layout depends on the opening. These are the four situations we quote most often in the city.

Apartment balconies

Full-height cabling from the floor or railing top to the ceiling line, so the balcony can be used with the door open.

Bedroom and living room windows

Frame-fitted cables that let the window open fully without a projecting grill outside.

Homes with young children

Narrow cable spacing across the full opening height, with no horizontal footholds to climb.

Upper floors and duplexes

Staircase voids, mezzanine edges and internal open railings where a rigid barrier is needed but a solid wall would darken the space.

How it compares with a conventional grill

A short, honest comparison so you can decide before the site visit.

View from inside
Cables are barely visible; a welded grill blocks the sightline
Airflow
Practically unrestricted with either option
Elevation appearance
Follows the existing railing, so the building face stays uniform
Maintenance
Occasional wipe-down; stainless fittings resist Bangalore monsoon humidity
Removal
Can be taken down without cutting or rewelding

How we install

  1. 1

    Site inspection

We check the opening, the fixing surface and any association guidelines.

  2. 2

    Measurement and quote

Every opening is measured individually; the quote lists cable spacing and fittings.

  3. 3

    Track fixing

Upper and lower tracks are anchored to structural points, not to loose plaster.

  4. 4

    Cable tensioning

Each cable is drawn and locked to an even tension across the span.

  5. 5

    Final check

We test spacing, tension and end fittings with you before we leave.

Invisible Grills: common questions

Yes. The strength comes from tensioned stainless cable anchored into structural fixing points, not from the thickness of what you see. The load is spread across the whole run rather than resting on a single cable.
